Army offers N1m reward for information on abducted colonel

The Nigerian Army on Monday said it would reward anyone with useful information that could lead to the rescue of its abducted officer, Col.  Samaila Inusa, with N1m.

 The Nigerian Army, through  the General Officer Commanding  One Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army,  Kaduna,  Maj. Gen. Adeniyi  Oyebade, had earlier on Sunday promised anyone with such information the sum of N500,000.

 The Army said it would provide anyone volunteering any useful information with adequate protection and also gave the assurance that the information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

 On Monday while briefing newsmen, the spokesman for the One Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Col. Abdul Usman, raised the cash reward to N1m.

 Usman said the Nigerian Army was ready to give the reward to anyone with useful information that could lead to the rescue of the senior military officer.

 According to the spokesman, these were part of efforts to successfully rescue Inusa from his abductors.

 Inusa, serving with the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, near Kaduna State, was abducted at gunpoint around Kamazo, along Kaduna Refinery Junction in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday night by yet-to-be identified gunmen.

 The officer was whisked away in his Mercedes Benz by his abductors, who dropped off his wife. They were said to have  headed towards Abuja.

 A statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations Officer of One Mechanised Division, Nigerian Army, Col.  Abdul Usman, had said,  “The abductors dropped off Colonel Inusa’s wife and left with him in his car. The car headed towards Abuja.

 “The abductors dropped off Colonel Inusa’s wife and left with him in his car.”

 This was coming barely a week after three clerics were abducted along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.

 The President of the United Church of Christ in Nigeria, Rev. Emmanuel Dziggau, along with his Vice-President, Rev. Iliya Anto,  and one Rev. Yakubu Zarma, were abducted by gunmen along the Kaduna – Abuja Expressway on Monday.

 The abductors, numbering six, were masked and armed with AK47 rifles; and demanded for N100m ransom.

 The ransom was later reduced to N80m, according to a family source.
